Sliding Window / July 14, 2018 / Tearlach DuLin
Especially good for covering patio doors these window coverings preserve an outdoors look. Some interior decorators also use them as attractive room dividers. The dramatic size of these wall to wall floor to floor window coverings creates a striking image. To install these window coverings you need some kind of track to hold the window frame. Unlike wood blinds where the window and blinds are separate in sliding panels they are the same. Some have tracking on the top and bottom while some only have it on one side.
Casement windows are attached vertically with hinges to one side on a wall. They usually open with a crank mechanism. A single window or a pair of windows can be fitted into a frame. They open all the way outward and are wide open from top to bottom and sidetoside. A sliding window is a window that slides along a track inside the window frame. The frame may consist of many tracks depending on the number of windows on the tracks. They open horizontally and give a hundred percent view of the outside.
Many new sliding windows have key locking latches already installed. Some allow the window to be locked slightly open for ventilation. If your home has these window locks they are usually secure enough to keep your insurance company happy. If your home has only a simple nonlocking latch you should secure them with a keylocking sliding window lock or a window grill. Installing window locks yourself will cost AUD$15$20 per window. Having these locks supplied and installed by a locksmith will cost $40$50 per window.
